Stephanie Zafonte, DNP, RN, CCRP

Sr. Director Clinical Research

Dr. Zafonte is an advanced practice nurse with over 31 years’ experience in the research industry. Her passion is for research that yields results that are reliable, valid and meaningful, and changes lives.  She received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) and MSN in Clinical Research Administration from The George Washington University focusing her studies on the leadership and management of clinical research programs as well as conducting research on informed consent forms.  She received her BSN from University of Maryland, Baltimore. She began her career at National Institutes of Health Clinical Center as a clinical research nurse caring for patients and supporting research projects that spanned infancy through adulthood across a variety of therapeutic areas including critical care, cardiovascular, hematology, oncology, infectious diseases, immunology, and neurology.  After leaving the bedside, Dr. Zafonte has led pediatric and adult research programs and projects for NIH extramural programs in infectious diseases, endocrine, and cardiovascular indications, funded through governmental grants and contracts.  She has served as a Director of Quality for a Phase I Unit and Analytical Lab, contractor to FDA for a medical device program, and consulted on project start-up and implementation.  Dr. Zafonte has also led clinical research projects for pharmaceutical sponsors and at her alma mater, The George Washington University.  She also volunteers as a Healing Minister in her faith community.
