Collin Hovinga, PharmD., M.S., FCCP joins I-ACT for Children as Senior Vice President, Clinical and Scientific Development
The Institute for Advanced Clinical Trials for Children (I-ACT for Children) is excited to announce that Dr. Collin Hovinga has joined the organization as the Senior Vice President, Clinical and Scientific Development. Dr. Hovinga is recognized as a thought leader in pediatric pharmacology and has held appointments with the FDA’s Peripheral and Central Nervous System Advisory Committee. Dr. Hovinga has held key roles in pediatric interventional clinical trials and neuroprotective translational research in NIH funded projects. He was most recently Chair of ACCP’s Practice Based Research Advisory Committee. Dr. Hovinga has been an active leader in practice-based guidelines and evidence-based medicine projects for the American Academy of Neurology and American Epilepsy Society. He is a recognized advocate for the care of children and an expert in the conduct of pediatric clinical trials.
He comes to I-ACT for Children from Ascension Health, Austin, TX where he served as Director of Research Support Services. He has extensive experience overseeing research as an investigator and compliance expert, as well as in the management of multi-center research portfolio and staff. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor at University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Hovinga earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed a Residency and Fellowship in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy with emphasis in Pediatric Neuroscience at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center. He completed a second Fellowship at the Food and Drug Administration Office of Clinical Pharmacology and a Masters of Epidemiology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He has additional training in outcomes research from MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Hovinga will join the leadership team of I-ACT for Children to focus on the development of projects and overall portfolio of medical and scientific projects. He will also serve as a medical-scientific expert on project teams and aid in growth of the I-ACT for Children’s hospital site network. Dr. Hovinga is a highly dedicated and experienced pediatric professional, and we look forward to working with him to accomplish I-ACT for Children’s mission.
